Krisi,
The company Portable Farms LLC has been sold. The website will contain all of the relevant information on how to contact the new owners. It will be a couple of months till that is done.
I am working on a budget for a clinic that will need to feed 50-100 people a day while having treatments. We are hoping for NonGMO, organic, healthy foods. Can you give me a general budget number for a unit/"Green house" that will do this. We are in early budget stages so even a rough number would be helpful. Please include as much details as possible so we can make sure we are "Covered". The crops we could do would also be helpful.
We are in Piedmont NC but the vision is to build multiple facilities in the US>
Thank you for your help
God Bless

Bill,
A rough figure is around $325,000. Buy the book Commercial Aquaponic GOLD from the site and get the complete breakdown of the cost and production.
Hello,
I live near Birmingham Alabama and have questions about the feasibility of a small home aquaponics system. Controlling the temperature hear could be very difficult in our hot summers. If the tank were outside, I am not sure the temperature could be kept below 80 degrees during our summers. How could I control the temps in your system?
Thank you,
Jeff J
Dear Jeff: Thanks for your interest in Portable Farms Aquaponics Systems. You are correct, it is difficult to control the head in climates with hot summers. You must have a greenhouse that is acclimated for your weather conditions. That may mean wet walls and fans or heaters on the floor in cold months. The fish tanks are installed inside the greenhouse and temperature controls (aquarium heaters) maintain a steady temperature year-round of 78 degrees F. Plus, we use SolaWrap (looks like giant bubble wrap) on our roof to scatter the light within the greenhouse, so it doesn't burn the plants. We have a great online course that explains the specifics if you're interested.

We avoid Talapia because it is unhealthy for people to consume. Is this the only fish that works in this system and if so is there another use for the fish which will obviously be abundant? I'm sure you're familiar with the toxins that occur in Talapia farming and I know you aren't using antibodies to treat them, but your site doesn't address this concern. To be clear, we wouldn't eat these fish because of the Omega 6 fatty acids even if they are farmed free of antibiotics. I won't say there isn't more we can learn regarding this entire process but so far this is our only real concern.
David: You can grow catfish, but they like a cooler water temperature which may effect your plants growth, plus catfish fry are only available 90 days per year. The three reasons we prefer tilapia {commonly used in the Northern Hemisphere), is 1) because they are a healthy fish who can thrive in 88 degree F water temperature year round with tank heaters, and 2) they are a very healthy fish. We seldom-if-ever lose a fish before maturity of 7 to 9 months, and 3) tilapia fry are available year round. The fish in our systems are primarily used for their rich nutritious effluent to raise our plants. We remove the heavy waste with special pumps and divert the waste into clarifier tanks.
Right. We do not use antibodies and our 700 gallon tanks are atomically cleaned twice per day before the water is allowed to flow through our gravel grow beds. We do not crowd our fish tanks, ever. We allow for three gallons per fish instead of the industry standard of one gallon per fish.
I hope this addresses your concerns. You can also donate the fish to non-profit centers who serve at-risk communities.
O'fish-ally Your friend,
Phyllis Davis, President/Partner, PFAS LLC
I have ordered and will soon install my greenhouse, 20' x 40.' I plan soon after to purchase at least one of your aquaponic systems, and likely expand with more later.
What are the electrical requirements I need to provide at the greenhouse for each of your modules? Grow lighting can be excluded; I do not plan any grow lights.

Bryan,
Their are two air pumps in the Portable Farms Kits, they power the aerator and the CAD Pump. The smaller one for the aerator has a 20watt rating and the one for the CAD Pump is rated at 32watts. That is the total electrical requirement for a Portable Farms Module, 52watts. You may need heaters if you live in a cool climate and we used two 150watt heaters in the Fish Tank.
We trust this addresses your question.
We look forward to having you onboard as a student,
Colle
We would like to find out about a unit that can support 16 people.
