I have been planing on a small business for a while. I intend to start with a 30 x 60 x 8 foot wall greenhouse all automated .The product that I have found to be needed in this area is cabbage, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, and tomato. Can you tell me how many units I can install to maximize the space I have? I also am planning to install a 40 ft x 8 ft x 8 ft reefer cooler and a 16 x 20 prep area with a loading dock. The land greenhouse and other structure will cost around 120,000 dollars, what will be the estimated ROI ? I will also have a college age major helping me do the work. Also have plans to expand.
I really enjoyed all the articles on this subject that you have put together.
Thanks
Kevin
Kevin,
Thank you for your inquiry.
The building size needs to be adjusted because the suggested footprint is very hard to work with to lay out Modules efficiently. The Modules are generally 7.5 x 44 or 8.5' x 36. Using the shorter/wider Module size a building of 30 x 72 will hold 8 Modules nicely.
You are spending money on a reefer that you will not need. Your produce will leave for local buyers the day it is harvested.
Who is your market? What do they want to buy? Cabbage is a field crop and it is not generally economically feasible to compete with the regular wholesale market. You need to make sure you have your market survey completed before you spend any money on the building of your installation.
An installation of this size only requires one person to operate. The second person would be a part timer at best.
The Aquaponics University Portable Farms Aquaponics Systems Course© and the Commercial Aquaponics GOLD ebook are your next steps.
